Tap a private album, then tap the + at the top right to choose photos or videos from your phone.

Tap "Select" and check photos to move them to another private album, save them to your phone, or delete them. Tap the ⋯ at the top right to rename the album, change the cover, or delete the album.

Friends, group members, and the 24h team can't see your Private Album, and it never appears in any chat, calendar, or Moments.
You can also save photos from chats to your Private Album: for photos in a chat, tap "Save to Album"; for photos in a chat album, tap "More" in full-screen view and choose "Save to Private Album". Then choose an existing private album or create a new one. Saved photos are separate copies that count toward your own storage, so they stay even if the other person deletes the original or you leave the chat.
Private albums are listed by creation date, newest first. Deleting a private album deletes the photos in it too, and they can't be recovered. Deleting your account deletes all your private albums.
